This is the post that will describe you why Motorola ROKR E2 is the best modding phone made so far. With this guide you will be able to obtain ROOT access to the MontaVista operating system of your GSM.
What you need:
1. A firmware 33p or higher (you need to have USB Net option)
2. The InetD daemon installed on the phone
3. The USB Net Drivers (in case you are connecting for a first time)
3. A Telnet application. Windows usually have one preinstalled
What to do:
1. Switch your phone to "USB Net" connectivity mode and connect it to the PC
2. Install drivers if needed
3. Go to the phone menu and start the InetD application. You will hear sound from the speaker
4. Go to File > Run, type cmd and press OK
5. Type "ipconfig" and wait until you see list with your network devices. You will find the phone defined as Ethernet adapter and it will have an IP address (usually it is 192.168.16.1).
6. Type "telnet <the ip address>", but remember - the last digit of the IP address has to be increased by 1 (for if the IP is 192.168.16.1 then you will use "telnet 192.168.16.2").
7. You will see a login prompt asking for username - just type "root" and press enter.
8. You are in the shell! Enjoy the world of MontaVista linux!
Additional tricks: You can also use Internet Explorer to browse your files and upload. Repeat what was done on step 5. and go to the following URL: \\192.168.16.1 and you will see the Scheduled Tasks on the phone or \\192.168.16.2 to see the sytem files. Of course the IP may vary depending on your computer. Check the step 5 in the previous tutorial.

Download the new 2.6.2.0 P2K drivers set HERE
The installation is simple - when you switch the phone is some mode (modem, usb net or bootloader) then Windows will detect it and will ask you for drivers. Just unpack that archive and point it to search in the right direction.
How to flash Motorola ROKR E2

We figured out that the description in the firmware section "Flash using RSD lite" is not enough for newbies, so we decieded to write a unified tutorial for flashing Motorola ROKR E2. Here is what you need to do:
1. Firsr review the flash file. When you unzip the archive usually you will find only two files - one is .shx and one is .sbf file. First you will flash the .shx and then you will flash the .sbf.
2. Turn off your phone. Press the Voice Key + Red Key. You will get the primary bootloader screen. Now start hitting the voice key multiple times until the bootscreen text changes and you will see the secondary bootloader.
3. Connect your phone, open RSD Lite and flash your phone with the .shx file (in some firmwares there is only one .sbf file - choose it here)
4. After the flash is complete then you can turn your phone into the primary bootloader again and then flash it using RSD lite. Here you may need to follow additional instructions from the firmware post itself (like replacing some .smg files during the flash). However that is optional
